When I think back to my childhood, there's one constant that immediately comes to mind—cooking with my mom.

The primary love language in my home was "activity," which always consisted of cooking something delicious.

As I've grown into an adult and moved away from my childhood home, I've continued to look at cooking as a labor of love, and it has this magical way of transporting me back to the kitchen with my mom. Especially when I try a new recipe, it has a unique way of stirring up that original creativity fostered by time well spent in the kitchen.

So, this year, when my parents decided to visit for Thanksgiving, I knew we'd have lots of quality time in the kitchen, and I challenged my mom with a new recipe featuring ginger that I wanted to try...Gingerbread.
